Achieving the Best

August 2018

Film & Foil are delighted to announce that we have achieved Grade AA with zero non-conformances in our latest BRC audit when it comes to the quality of our products, we are proud to supply the highest quality available on the market today.

This is now the third year that we have achieved the highest grade available under the BRC standard, showing our consistency and commitment in maintaining a working environment that is safe, hygienic and compliant for supply to the food packaging industry.

Unlike other film suppliers, we stock each of our films from a single supplier so that you, and we, know that the high quality will be consistent from one order to the next. While many other film suppliers have BRC accreditation Film & Foil are one of the few who have reached the top grade of double A against the latest standards.

This is reflected in our factory and the standards we have set ourselves for hygiene and safety, being a business that takes pride in our actions and product. We work with the customer in mind at all times, and are pleased that this has been reflected in our BRC Audit.

Achieving AA grade ensures that we have met the BRC Global Standard six sections of requirements, conforming to these standards means we can guarantee customers a high-end quality, food-safe product.

Any existing and future customers can access out new BRC Certificate here

Congratulations to all our staff who ensure we keep our standards high all year round and have worked exceptionally to secure the BRC top grade yet again.

Biodegradables with Film & Foil

May 2018

It's safe to say that most of us understand the importance to be conscious of the impact we are having on the environment in our day to day lives and at work.

Environmental awareness is an integral part of the success at Film & Foil, we are ensuring we keep it at the forefront of our minds, making the necessary changes to reduce our impact.

We have several options to help tackle the impact our customers have on the environment through a range of organic films;

Oxo-Biodegradable;

Designed to tackle the ever-increasing amount of plastic waste that accumulates in our oceans and land OXO Biotechnology was born. Bi-product of refined oil, providing the same handling effects as our standard BOPP films but extruded with pro-degradant additives for enhanced biodegradation. It's can be applied in general purpose packaging of a wide range of products.

PLA (Corn Starch Based);

Produced from renewable biomass which will degrade between 12 and 18 months under the correct conditions, and faster (40-60 days) under industrial composting conditions.

Compostable;

Bio and cellulose films suitable for home composting in line with EU regulations EN13432.

Environmental films have previously been cost prohibitive, however with the recent media attention and change in the public conscience they are now becoming a more realistic and considered the option.

Working with our customers, over a period of three-years Film & Foil have achieved, with its customers a reduction of 97 tonnes usage through downgrading and packaging audits. This not only reduces the cost to the consumer but optimises machine usage and reduces waste.

Often as a manufacturing business, most of our environmental impact comes down to the production process, improve our footprint, in 2015 we installed a 50kW solar panel system in our Haydock site. We now use up to an estimated 75% self-generated energy, renewable energy.

We have also for a long time, recycled and separated our waste streams whenever possible to minimise the waste sent to landfill.

Success for Film & Foil
at IPEX 2017

November 2017

IPEX @ NEC Birmingham 2017 was an extremely successful for Film & Foil Solutions. We had a very successful week. Our stand came together as planned and proved to be a great attraction. We enjoyed meeting with customers old and new as well as launching three new products: Leather Embossed Velvet Matt, Linen Embossed and Anti-Scuff X, our second generation anti-scuff film, giving an extra flat matt finish and enhanced anti-scuff and scratch characteristics.

The response to these new products was tremendous and it was very clear our customers were very excited to see them featured in our product range. It was great to see a lot of positivity around all of our products, supported by the launch of a new range of 2018 printed material, including our new swatches, brochures and laminated samples.

We also took the opportunity at IPEX to debut the next generation lamination film, a complete lamination solution compatible with both thermal and digital presses, which eliminates the need and requirement for many of the hassles currently faced by print laminators across the world: ink curing times, coating and primer problems and post-lamination delays for Spot UV, folding & cutting. More about this to follow in the coming months.
